Bwin Review

Bwin is among the largest bookmakers on the planet, and for two decades they’ve provided punters around the world with a stellar range of betting markets and events. Established in 1997, Bwin was called betandwin – this was sometimes shortened to betwin. When the bookie first launched they had just 12 employees, and they worked from a temporary office – far from the global online gambling superpower they are today. The company also used to be known as Bwin party.

Just a year or so after betwin started, the bookie started taking bets through their online website. This was a major step forward for the sportsbook, and it’s one of the moves that catapulted them to the forefront of the online sports betting world. Indeed, betwin is widely regarded as being the first online bookmaker to begin offering in-play bet opportunities. It proved to be a massie success with punters, and it wasn’t long before other online sportsbooks were offering the same.

Just a few years after their launch, betwin went public – and their initial public offering took place in March 2000. The company was floated on the Austrian Stock Exchange. From there, Bwin went from strength to strength, and just a year later they acquired a company called Simon Bold – the two companies then merged, forming Bwin International Ltd. The company moved their headquarters to Gibraltar – here, they benefited from easier access to the online gambling industry, along with lower tax rates.

Pros and Cons

  • Hugely trusted international brand
  • One of the best bookies for football markets
  • Easy-to-use website
  • Fantastic mobile-optimized website
  • Great selection of in-play betting markets
  • Customer support facility needs work
  • Site is CPU-intensive
  • Mobile app needs further improvement
  • Political markets are rare
  • Not many currencies are supported

Bwin casino was one of the first non-sports products that the bookie released, and their online casino is powered by some of the world’s leading game developers. This includes the likes of NetEnt, Microgaming, Thunderkick, Quickspin, Big Time Gaming and Playtech. Bwin casino is accessible to players all over the world, and one account balance is shared among all the different parts of the site. There’s also a Bwin poker area, where you can play cash games and tournaments against players from around the world.

Since their foundation, Bwin have made it clear that they want punters to experience a hassle-free and laid-back betting experience. For example, the main Bwin login page lets you create a brand-new account in a matter of minutes. The Bwin login screen also displays all of their bonus terms and conditions, which means you don’t need to worry about running into problems by accidently breaking bonus terms.

Bwin UK is arguably the biggest part of the bookmaker’s operation – and Bwin UK takes tens of thousands of bets every single day. The bookmaker also have invested significant amounts of money in their mobile betting facilities. For example, the Bwin app is available to punters accessing the site from an iOS or Android device. We’ll look at the Bwin app later on in this review. In this comprehensive Bwin sportsbook review, we’re going to be covering everything. For example, we’ll take an in-depth look at the Bwin sign up offer, and we’ll also be covering many other areas of their online betting business.

Bwin Sportsbook

Bwin sports marketsHead into the Bwin premium sportsbook and you’ll see how many markets and events this world-leading sportsbook truly offer. In total, they offer some 38 sports, and 199 betting markets. The sportsbook take hundreds of thousands of bets each day, and these bets are spread across thousands of daily markets and events. Just some of the sports betting markets you’ll find includes football, tennis, basketball, horse racing, rugby union, boxing, American football, snooker, darts, golf, baseball, cycling and volleyball. In this section, we’re going to be breaking down some of these major markets.

From the main betting page, you’ll see a ‘Highlights’ tab. This actually changes dynamically depending on which country you’re located in. For the purposes of this review (which was written from the UK), we’ll be talking about a UK highlights tab. Now, on this tab, you’ll be able to see a breakdown of the top betting markets for that specific day. Today, for example, you’ll see three football matches – all of which are part of the EURO 2020 Qualifiers. A few of the most common bets are offered right there and then, allowing you to easily and quickly add them to your betslip.

Horse racing is also extremely prominent at Bwin’s website. While they focus primarily on UK and Irish horse races, Bwin sport also offer covers some races from South Africa, Australia and France. Bwin sport are always adding new races too – although we should point out that they don’t offer as many horse race events as some of the other bookies around today.

Now, so far, we’ve talked about bwin bet offering standard bets. However, along with this they also offer a variety of straight spread betting types, along with money lines, props, totals and ante (long term) bets. These are desirable for the seasoned punter, and this vast selection of betting options is one of the ways in which Bwin make themselves stand out from the pack.

While they offer a wide variety of bet types, Bwin are perhaps best known for their in-play product – also known as Bwin live. Bwin live allows you to wager money on a number of markets and events that have already kicked off. For example, at pretty much all times of day they offer betting on more than two dozen markets – many of which are football matches. As you’d’ expect, Bwin’s live betting odds change quickly, which can make it hard to actually place bets. Thankfully, they have a dynamic odds betting tool which means that when you actually place bets, you get a few seconds of ‘goodwill’ time to confirm your bets.

Bwin resultsWhile Bwin don’t offer as many markets as, say, Betfair or Bet365, they do a fantastic job of giving you the basics – and there are also some more obscure betting options offered too. If you head to the ‘Entertainment’ tab on the left-hand-side of the screen, you’ll see yourself able to wager cash on a number of unique events. For example, heading into the ‘Europe’ tab lets you bet on which country you think will win the next Eurovision Song Contest. Similarly, in the ‘USA’ tab you’ll be able to bet on who you think will win the Razzie Awards. There’s plenty of options here.

Bwin also offer a small selection of eSports markets. While they don’t offer as many video game options as some of the world’s bookies, they do offer a decent selection of League of Legends bets. We’ve recently heard that Bwin will be adding new eSports markets to their site in the near future too, so we’ll update this review of Bwin’s sportsbook accordingly, when these are the case.

Bwin statistics databaseBwin also offers a range of sports statistics. These give you an ‘insider’s view’ into predictions – letting you make more informed bets. When it comes to maximum bets, you can stake as much as you like – provided it doesn’t exceed their daily win-cap. This cap is €250,000 for football and horse racing, and €100,000 for tennis and most other markets. Currently, Bwin offer a small yet – usually – sufficient results section too.

We’re now going to be looking at some of the main betting tools available at Bwin’s website. Later on, we’ll be covering the details of the Bwin welcome offer, which is offered to all new customers. Their odds are generally pretty good – although some horse events aren’t the best in the world.

Betting Tools

We found that Bwin’s website is well-designed for both serious and amteur punters. They offer an exceptional selection of betting tools for you to take advantage of, and one of the most beneficial of these is the ‘quick bet’ option. Let’s say that you’re browsing the markets available and see a bet you like the look of. Using the quick bet tool, you can easily add this selection to your betslip. This is ideal for those fast-paced situations where you want to get bets placed without waiting around to try and actually place them.

Bwin also offers a variety of betting options that are scheduled quite far ahead. For example, at the time of writing they allow you to place bets on golfing events that aren’t set to start for three months. This means you get plenty of time to calculate the bets that you want to place, and ensures you’re never ‘rushed’ to choose which selections you want.

Bwin live calendarAs we mentioned in the ‘Sportsbook’ section above, Bwin also offer a tremendous variety of in-play betting markets. For example, you’ll find yourself able to wager cash on a huge number of live events, from football and cricket to tennis, volleyball and even some live TV events! Their sports broadcasts are pretty good, and you’ll find yourself able to watch in clear, crisp HD. As you’d expect from a bookie of Bwin’s size, they offer a great selection of in-play markets, and their in-play schedule allows you to view exactly what’s coming up in the future!

Another feature of Bwin’s website which stands out to us, is the easy-to-view ‘My Bets’ section. This only appears when you’re logged into your account, and can be found on the right-hand-side of the screen. From this tab, you’ll be able to view a breakdown of all the bets you’ve placed. It allows you to see whether you’re eligible to cashout any of your bets too, so you can easily and quickly see whether you’re eligible to do so or not.

Bwin Sports Bonuses and Promotions

Bwin promotionsUnder the main ‘Promotions’ tab you’ll be able to view a full breakdown of all promotions which are currently running at Bwin’s site. You should also keep an eye on your email inbox, as this is where any exclusive or time sensitive promos will be sent.

100% Matched Deposit Bonus

While Bwin’s welcome bonus has changed quite frequently over the past few years, today, it’s back to how it once was. When you create an account at Bwin and make a deposit, the bookmaker will match your first deposit by 100%, up to – usually – £1,000. Say, for example, you created an account at Bwin and made a deposit of £200. Bwin would credit your account with an additional £200, bringing your total account balance up to £400!

Acca Sats

Bwin run a regular promotion every Saturday – and we think that it’s fair to say it’s one of the more generous promos we’ve seen. Now, it works like this: each Saturday, you simply need to make a £10 bet on an acca (four or more selections), and within 24 hours of your placing this bet, you’ll then receive a free £5 bet. This free bet can be used on virtually any betting market you like, and any winnings you make from this free bet are yours to keep.

Bwin In-Play Club

Bwin’s In-Play Club is available to all punters, and it’s fair to say that it’s something the sportsbook is actually really well known for. Here’s how it works: all you need to do is place 5 X £10 in-lay bets on tennis or football each week, and then, at the weekend, you’ll receive a free £5 to use as you please. What’s great about this offer is that the £5 free bet doesn’t need to be placed on an in-play bet. You can use it to bet on virtually any market you see on Bwin’s website.

Added Time Added Winnings

In one of Bwin’s more unique promotions, their ‘Added Time Added Winnings’ promotion is proving incredibly popular. Now, before we look at what it is, we should point out that you must opt-in to this promotion. Now, if a match that you’ve bet on goes to extra time – and, during extra time, a goal is scored – Bwin will double your winnings from that specific bet. This allows you to win – potentially – twice as much cash! Of course, this bonus isn’t offered on all events, and you can view a list of the week’s featured game from their ‘promotions’ tab.

Bwin Cash Out

If you’re used to cashing out, then you’ll be pleased to learn that Bwin offer cashout on almost all of their markets and events. You don’t need to opt-in to anything, and if cashout is available, you’ll notice that a ‘cash out’ button appears on your betslip. This is found under the ‘My Bets’ section that we talked about in the ‘betting tools’ section of this post. Bwin state that cashout is available on around 95% of their betting markets. So, while you won’t find it offered on all of their markets, generally speaking, it can be found on most.

Best Odds Guaranteed at Bwin

Best Odds Guaranteed are offered by many of the world’s leading online bookmakers. Bwin are no exception to this, and they offer Best Odds Guaranteed on all UK and Irish horse races. Now, there are a few conditions; first of all, as mentioned before, this promo is only offered if you place a bet on a horse race that’s situated within the UK or Ireland. This means all other horse races are not eligible. Another term to be aware of, is that while BOG bets are accepted, the only BOG bets which are eligible are those placed after 8am on the day of the race. There’s also a maximum cap, which is £20,000 per day, per customer. This is a relatively high limit, and unless you’re placing nosebleed stake sized bets, you shouldn’t need to worry too much about exceeding this limit!

Perhaps one of the biggest reasons to join Bwin is the extensive selection of betting markets which they offer. That being said, they also support a huge number of payment methods, and this allows you to make deposits and withdrawals in a way that suits you. For starters, the bookie accepts all major debit and credit cards – including the likes of VISA, MasterCard and Maestro. Now, there’s also a wide variety of EWallets supported at the bookie’s website, including Skrill and Neteller. Unfortunately, they do not currently offer PayPal – which is a shame, as many of the world’s leading sportsbooks are now offering it.

Some of the other payment methods you’ll find yourself able to take advantage of at Bwin includes Click2Pay, Ukash, paysafecard, Kalixa, Western Union, myCitadel, Giropay, ELV, Moneta, Mister Cash, Abaqoos, ClickandBuy, Cheque, Instadebit, Poli, Neosurf, Sofort Banking and Ticket Premium.

When it comes to withdrawals, Bwin aren’t the fastest site on the planet – but they do process cashouts much quicker than the majority of online sportsbooks. Provided your account is fully verified, Bwin aim to process all cashout requests within 48 hours. Depending on which payment method you choose to use, this means that the funds you’ve withdrawn may be in your bank/EWallet account in as little as 1-2 hours. Of course, if you use debit and credit cards to make a withdrawal you’ll typically need to wait the full 2-5 working days to receive your funds.

If you’d like to speed up the withdrawal time-frame, you can do so by uploading your verification documents before making a withdrawal request. This can be done by emailing Bwin’s customer support team, and you can also upload them on the dedicated verification page on their website. Typically, you’ll need to upload a copy of proof of address and a scan of your passport or driving license. If you’ve used debit and credit cards to make a deposit, you’ll also usually need to provide a scan of the card you used, with the card number and any other sensitive information blanked out.

Bwin Customer Service

Bwin contact pageBwin take great care to ensure that their punters are looked after. While it’s very rare that anything would go wrong while you bet at their sportsbook, it’s always nice to know that there are options in place should you run into any errors. To help you with this, Bwin’s customer support team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In the website’s footer (by the logo) you’ll also see a phone number and an email address. These can be used to reach the sportsbook directly.

In our opinion, we’d always recommend using the live chat facility. This would allow you to speak with a member of the bookie’s customer support team in real time – and it means that you don’t need to worry about waiting around for long in order to receive a response.

When we start writing a new sportsbook review, there are a number of things we look at. For example, along with the main bonus offer, we’ll look at whether any free bet promotions run too. We’re very happy to say that Bwin do offer a wide variety of free bet offers, and if you’d like to read more about these, then be sure to check out the ‘Sports Bonuses and Promotions’ section earlier on in this review.

We also like how – at Bwin – you can choose whether to use fractional or decimal odds. This means that you can place bets (and indeed navigate the entire website) in a way that suits you. So, whether it’s football betting, horse racing, or event political markets, you can enjoy a betting experience in a way that’s suited to your personal needs.
On the whole, Bwin is a superb sportsbook. Their website is fast, easy-to-use and well-made, and if you’re looking for a new site to try out, then you’d be crazy not to give them a go. Their generous new-player welcome bonus ensures you can get – quite literally – something for free, and with their sign-up process taking just a minute or two, there’s no waiting around to begin placing bets! Click the button below to be taken directly to Bwin’s website. From here, it’s just a case of creating an account, and from there, you’ll all good to go!
